Do you remember the days when you were young and would go to a carnival and your parents would buy you cotton candy? Think about how happy you were and how much joy it brought in the moment? Well this modern take on an Old Fashioned is a combination of one of the noblest, most prestigious classic cocktails with a child-like fun and curiosity (essentially the epitome of what I strive to balance in life). This is THE Whiskey Muse signature cocktail – give it a try and let me know what you think!
INGREDIENTS
1.5 oz. of rye
0.5 oz. of rosso vermouth
0.25 oz. of cherry heering liqueur
3-4 dashes chocolate aztec bitters
butterscotch cotton candy (or 1 oz. simple syrup/1 sugar cube)
INSTRUCTIONS
Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Add in rye, vermouth, cherry heering and bitters. Stir mixture for 15 seconds and strain into rocks glass full of ice. Top with cotton candy and serve with a stir stick. You can either stir the cotton candy into the cocktail to add some sweetness or just eat and enjoy.
ADDITIONAL NOTES
Don’t have cotton candy? No problem, just substitute it for a sugar cube or ounce of simple syrup. If this is the case, muddle the sugar and bitters with a dash of water in the old fashioned glass until dissolved. Then add ice and strain mixture in.
