The Old Fashioned is the embodiment of a classic cocktail. With just four simple ingredients, spirits, sugar, bitter and water one is able to concoct a magical alchemy of sensual bliss. First documented in the 1800’s, the old fashioned has undergone many enhancements since then and regardless of the recipe remains an iconic imbibe for bartenders, home bartenders, guests and patrons alike.
1 sugar cube
3 dashes Angostura bitters
2.0 oz whiskey (usually rye)
orange twist (garnish)
Place the sugar cube in an old fashioned glass and cover with bitters. Add a splash of water.
Using a muddler (or spoon, lipstick, sharpie or whatever) stir together the ingredients until dissolved.
Add ice (or one big ass ice sphere) and pour in once ounce of whiskey at a time, stirring and incorporating the spirit. Garnish with an orange twist.
