Have you ever embarked on a romance that was fiery from the get go but had a short burn? You thought that it would last but after a few short weeks it came to an end leaving you wondering what the hell just happened? This is the muse behind the Sweet Lust cocktail.
After going to a local farmer’s market I came across Gillespies Fine Spirits, a local distillery which offered a variety of vodka, gin and liqueurs. Now I’ve been a fan of Sons of Vancouver’s Chili Vodka for awhile now, and so I simply had to get Gillispie’s Aphro Chili Chocolate Elixir. It’s infused with well known aphrodisiacs like cacao, chili and vanilla. This vodka-based elixir combined with another local favourite, The Woods Spirits Co’s Amaro and Wild Turkey 81 Bourbon create a great classic-style cocktail that has the spiciness of a lustful relationship but the sweetness of a soft, loving caress.
1.5 oz Wild Turkey Bourbon
0.5 oz Aphro Chili Chocolate Elixer
0.5 oz The Woods Spirits Co Amaro
0.5 oz Madagasgar Vanilla Infused Simple-Syrup
2 dashes Bittered Sling Orange + Juniper Bitters
2 dashes Scrappy’s Chocolate Bitters
Lemon rind for garnish
In a cocktail shaker add ice and ingredients. Stir for 10 to 15 seconds. Strain into a chilled coupe glass and garnish with a lemon heart.
**To make the Madagasgar Vanilla simple syrup bring 1 cup of berry sugar and 1 cup of water on medium heat to a boil until sugar is dissolved. Pour into mason jar and add 1-2 vanilla pods. Let sit for a week. Strain out vanilla pods and enjoy. If you’re short on time, instead of the vanilla pods add 1 tsp to 1 tbsp of organic pure vanilla extract to the simple syrup.
