THE WITCH HUNTER

The Witch Hunter - Whiskey Muse
Oh Strega, where have you been all my life? I recently have become obsessed with this vibrant yellow spirit (which gets its colour from saffron). Created in 1860 in Italy, this liqueur is herbal (fennel, mint), spice (anise, juniper) and sweetness. At 40% ABV its flavourful and delicious and reminds me of yellow chartreuse (or is it the other way around?). Nevertheless, the Witch Doctor gets its name from “Strega” which means “Witch” in Italian. This cocktail is truly a bewitching brew, try it for yourself with the recipe below.

INGREDIENTS

45 mL Blended Whisky
15 mL Strega
30 mL Lemon Juice
15 mL Simple Syrup
1 Egg White
2 drops Lavender Bitters

INSTRUCTIONS

In a shaker tin, add all ingredients. Shake until the egg whites are aerated and frothy. Add ice and shake for a second time until chilled. Double strain into a coupe. Garnish with an edible flower (or two or three).

For these photos I used edible flowers and beet root powder for the garnish.
