I Like My Whisky The Way I Like My Men TASTE

Whisky Review: Laird of Fintry 2019

You remind me a lot of… myself… 🤭

I guess sometimes it can be true what they say: like attracts like ✨

Strong. Reminds me of a peanut butter cup. Yup, that about sums it up.

Today for my whisky ‘date’ I am featuring Okanagan Spirits’ Laird of Fintry Single Malt Whisky — the Cask Strength Edition.

This whisky was actually a gift from someone super thoughtful + I didn’t realize that there’s actually an annual lottery to get your hands on this bottle. Well it looks like I won the jackpot 🎰 🎰 🎰 !

TL;DR — Laird of Fintry reminds me of: A peanut butter cup!

I feel like the idea of ‘terroir’ is a hotly contested topic in the whisky world. While there is no doubts that terroir plays a major role in the developments of wines, there’s less known about its impact with distilled spirits.

That being said, I would suggest that Laird of Fintry is an excellent example of showcasing terroir from a region (aka the Okanagan Valley in British Columbia). Made with 100% malted barley grown in BC, distilled, aged and bottled in BC and partnering with Kelowna based winery, Quail’s Gate to finish this expression for 6 months in their ex-wine fortified red wine barrels is pretty special. It should come as no surprise that with all of these specifics, the nose and palate are quite distinctive and memorable.

More notes about this whisky:

1️⃣ If you see cask strength or barrel strength on the bottle it means that the whisky is bottled at the same ABV (alcohol by volume) that is came out of the maturation cask from. Typically distilleries will dilute (aka add water) to bring down the strength to 40–46 percent.

2️⃣ This particular expression I tried was bottled in 2019 and is from Lot 6.

3️⃣ Local whiskies can be total gems for whisky geeks. Because they have smaller stills and are a lot more hand-crafted, the flavour profiles of the batches will adapt and evolve year to year. Purchase the same type from different batches + conduct a lateral tasting. It will blow your mind 🤯
