Whisky Review: Lot No. 40 Dark Oak

“Walking with a friend in the dark is better than walking alone in the light” … 👯‍♀️💃🕺🏾

Oh how I wish I could walk with a friend in the dark right now!

As we continue to see COVID-19 cases increase here in BC, I’ve been trying to avoid social interactions and it has been challenging to say the least.

So while I may not be able to walk with you in the dark, I can introduce you to my (home) date with the “Rich + Refined” ʟᴏᴛ №40 ᴅᴀʀᴋ ᴏᴀᴋ.

I know that I just featured the OG Lot No. 40 in October but I absolutely had to geek out on this recently released expression that’s part of the Northern Borders Collection.

TL;DR — It reminds me of Christmas Cake — or heck, the whole Christmas season if it could be reincarnated into a whisky. 🥳🎅🎁🎊

Think of fresh green trees (notes of dill/mint), a spiced nut mix by the fire (baking spice, nutty, and slight smoke notes). This is definitely one of my favourite “everyday” whiskies that I’ve tried this year — at about $60 a bottle, you can savour it, but it’s also very crushable in my books.

Lot №40 Dark Oak is made from 100% Rye and aged first in new American Oak barrels (№2 char) then in heavily charred oak barrels (№4 char) giving it so many interesting elements that I want to explore with you.

Have you tried Lot №40 Dark Oak yet? It was part of a limited release in BC and Ontario, but don’t worry, a little birdie told me that it will be a permanent line extension in 2021!
