Whisky Review: Jura 12 Year

“Oh, so you’re from the island… that makes sense”… 🏝🏖

Interpret this.

Haha, so I’ve been living in Vancouver (on and off) for 8 years now but am originally from Victoria (Vancouver Island 🏖). When people find this out, that statement I noted above seems to be a common response.

I’m choosing to believe this connotes that I’m not as pretentious as I may appear — but perhaps that’s pretentious to make that assumption? Oh the irony.

Nevertheless, for today’s whisky ‘date’ I am pleased to feature Jura 12 Year which is a total “Smokeshow.”

✨TL;DR – It reminds me of a slightly burnt salted brownie✨

I have had some Jura expressions before, but never the 12 year and was pleasantly surprised to find out that it’s only $80 a bottle (in BC).

More notes about Jura 12:

1️⃣ Jura 12 Year is a peated single malt from the Highlands. I’m not sure of the exact PPM but it’s moderately peated. Think of it as somewhere in between a Bowmore and Lagavulin.

2️⃣ Yes, that’s right, it’s not just Islay that has peated single malts. The Highlands encapsulates both the northern part of Scotland as well as the surrounding islands where a number of peated Single Malts are made

3️⃣ Jura Distillery is located on… wait for it… the isle of Jura, a sparsely populated island off the west coast of Scotland (right above Islay).

Have you had this peated single malt before?
