Work has been so busy lately and now that it’s a holiday (in BC at least) I have a chance to go on a whisky date.
I’m SO excited about what’s in store this month. This month I will be focusing on quite a few 12 year old Scotches and some special surprises too!
Now let’s talk about my dram today:
Lagavulin 12 (2019 Release)
TL;DR — Lagavulin 12 reminds me of: Eating Dessert at a Seaside Beach Fire 🔥🌊💨🍋🍯
I don’t know if you’re familiar with Dating/Relationship Coach Matthew Hussey, but when I tried this malt, I was reminded of advice he gave about building attraction: create a unique pairing. If you have a combination of qualities that you don’t normally find in the same person, it creates intrigue vs. being dominant in just one area.
It’s hard for me to categorize this whisky because it has so many interesting facets to it. So let’s summarize the “unique pairings” for Lagavulin 12:
⍟ Cask Strength aka “Takes My Breath Away”
⍟ Heavily Peated aka “A Total Smokeshow”
⍟ Gorgeous Branding aka “Instagram Ready”
⍟ Sweet and Salty Notes and Limited Release aka “A Little Bit Salty”
If I was comparing Lagavulin 12 to Lagavulin 16 I would say three of the key things that really stood out was that (A) The aromas on the nose are much more pronounced (B) The mouthfeel is a lot less oily (C) It’s quite a bit sweeter.
